## Key points

- Polyphia’s new album takes a heavier, darker direction.
- “Let There Be Light” helped define the record’s sound.
- The band favour digital amp modelling over traditional amps.

## Summary

Polyphia have released Be Not Afraid, an instrumental album that pushes their blend of virtuosic guitar with pop, electronic, hip-hop and video-game influences into heavier, darker territory. The shift brings more overt metal elements while continuing the band’s interest in challenging expectations of guitar music.

Guitarists Tim Henson and Scott LePage say the album took shape after touring behind their 2022 release, with early work on “Let There Be Light” helping define its sound. They spent much of 2024 and all of 2025 focused on making it, using digital amp modelling rather than traditional amps; they say a studio re-amping attempt sounded worse.
