Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was one of DC’s few successes. It’s a mystery why she got the chop

Gal Gadot has revealed that DC Studios never formally told her that plans for a third Wonder Woman film had been dropped, despite bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran previously assuring her they would develop it. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said she watched how colleagues such as Henry Cavill and director Patty Jenkins were treated as the studio dismantled the old DC Extended Universe to build its new DCU, and concluded her own project was quietly shelved. The revelation is notable because Gadot's Wonder Woman was widely regarded as one of the old DC universe's few genuine critical and commercial hits, making her omission from the new continuity harder to explain than the departures of Ben Affleck's Batman or Cavill's Superman.

Gadot said the "Henry situation" and Jenkins's treatment were "not handled elegantly", though she insisted she holds no grudges and understands the new regime is "there to do what they believe in". Cavill had been brought back for a 2022 cameo in Black Adam and encouraged to confirm publicly he was returning as Superman, only to be told weeks later he was being recast, while Jenkins had a treatment for Wonder Woman 3 rejected and later had to deny reports she had walked away. Commentators note that while other supporting characters, such as John Cena's Peacemaker and Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle, survived into the new DCU, the "holy trinity" of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman were the defining faces of the previous Zack Snyder-led universe, making their removal symbolically important for signalling a clean reboot.
