Garbage singer Shirley Manson has said women’s rights are at “a crisis point” as the band prepares to perform at Olivia Rodrigo’s female-only Daisy Chains Field festival in California. She contrasted the event with the 1990s, when Garbage declined an invitation to Sarah McLachlan’s women-focused Lilith Fair because she felt progress for women was stronger then; she now believes rights are regressing globally.

The festival, scheduled for 29 August, will donate all profits to the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood and Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health. Rodrigo personally invited Manson and has modelled the event on Lilith Fair; the line-up includes Chappell Roan, Bikini Kill, Doechii, Mitski, Stevie Nicks, Karen O and McLachlan.
