Gavin Newsom seeks counsel from ‘master’ Bill Clinton as he plots Project 2029

Fox News · 6 hours ago

Gavin Newsom has described former President Bill Clinton as his political model as speculation grows about a possible 2028 presidential campaign. In an interview with *Vanity Fair*, the California governor said he studies Clinton’s speeches and seeks his advice, including in frequent late-night conversations; he praised Clinton’s problem-solving while noting scrutiny of his past associations and conduct.

Newsom, who is nearing the end of his second and final term as governor, said he would not run in 2028 if Kamala Harris did. He is also writing a 36-page policy outline called Project 2029, covering proposals such as zoning reform, childcare, family leave, tariffs, immigration and decarbonisation. Democratic strategists quoted by Fox News said Clinton’s appeal beyond the party’s progressive wing could offer a model for Newsom, while questioning whether he can convincingly present himself as a disrupter after decades in California politics.
