Britain's Harriet Dart and Fran Jones both won their opening matches in US Open qualifying in New York, keeping their hopes alive of reaching the main draw at Flushing Meadows. It was a mixed day for the British contingent overall, with Dart and Jones progressing while Jodie Burrage and teenager Henry Searle both lost their first-round qualifying matches.

Dart beat American Jordyn Hazelitt 6-0 6-7 (1-7) 6-1 and will next face 16-year-old Kristina Penickova, while Jones defeated Italy's Nuria Brancaccio 6-3 6-4 and will meet Germany's Mona Barthel. Burrage lost 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 to Spain's Guiomar Maristany, and Searle was beaten 6-1 6-2 by 16-year-old American Michael Antonius, who next faces former finalist Kei Nishikori. Elsewhere, Grigor Dimitrov and Bianca Andreescu both progressed, and Arthur Fery warmed up for New York with a win at the Winston-Smith Open ahead of the main draw starting on Sunday.
