The rock band Geese have addressed viral speculation that their rising popularity was manufactured, after musician Eliza McLamb's Substack post and a Wired article suggested the group's fanbase was artificially inflated through bot activity. Bassist Dominic DiGesu dismissed the accusation in an interview with Rolling Stone, inviting sceptics to attend a live show to judge the authenticity of the fanbase for themselves. Frontman Cameron Winter revealed the claims briefly rattled the band itself, prompting them to confront their label over fears their success might not be genuine.

Winter explained that the panic was resolved once the band reviewed what their marketing team had actually been doing, which turned out to be ordinary low-effort TikTok reposts of live footage intended to boost algorithmic visibility, rather than fake comments, followers or bots. He said seeing the underwhelming quality of the promotional clips reassured him that nothing untoward had occurred. DiGesu added that he welcomes the attention regardless, saying he is pleased people have strong opinions about the band either way.
