A newly resurfaced story details how George Harrison came to play a memorable slide guitar solo on Belinda Carlisle's 1989 single "Leave a Light On", forging an unlikely link between two very different bands: The Beatles and the Go-Go's. Producer Rick Nowels suggested the track needed a distinctive guitarist to elevate it, and Carlisle proposed Harrison, whom she had briefly met years earlier. The connection endures as a curious footnote in music history, given Harrison rarely lent his talents to projects outside his own.

Carlisle's husband, Morgan Mason, had a contact close to Harrison through his work producing Sex, Lies, and Videotape for Harrison's Handmade Films, and the ex-Beatle agreed to help almost immediately. Harrison later said he simply liked Carlisle's voice, and considered his slide guitar solo on the song among his favourite work, describing it as "a little composition in its own right". He reportedly joked afterwards that he hoped the team enjoyed the solo, since recording it had left him with a blister.
