A little-known Gerard Butler crime thriller is set to reach a wider audience via streaming, years after it was overshadowed by a poor theatrical release. The film, which pits Butler's hitman character against a con artist in a tense jailhouse stand-off, earned largely favourable reviews on release but flopped at the box office, meaning it has remained largely undiscovered until now. Its renewed availability offers fans of the genre a chance to revisit an overlooked entry that echoes classic 1970s and '80s cop-thriller tropes.

The film had a limited theatrical run in 2021, taking in only around $7 million against a reported $43 million budget. Interest in the genre has recently been reignited by Netflix's The Rip, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which has drawn over 135 million views and praise from director Quentin Tarantino, who called it reminiscent of the crime films he grew up watching. That film's director, Joe Carnahan, has also worked on projects influenced by Tarantino's style, a connection that has helped draw fresh attention back to Butler's earlier, commercially unsuccessful thriller.
