Bader will now undergo an MRI to assess the damage, adding to what has already been a deeply disappointing season for the 31-year-old, who has struggled with both fitness and form.

Bader has been restricted to just 30 games this year because of plantar fasciitis, a condition he has now dealt with for a second time in his career. During the games he has played, his performance has suffered badly, with a batting average of just .170, an on-base percentage of .198 and a slugging percentage of .358. The scooter accident, described as a bizarre late-night incident, has compounded his foot problem and cast further doubt over his availability for the Giants.
