Gigantic 844-pound alligator dubbed ‘Snaggletooth’ captured in South Carolina
Four South Carolina residents captured an 844-pound alligator known as Snaggletooth near Lake Moultrie, ending a search that had lasted about four years. At nearly 14 feet long, it is the second-largest alligator recorded in the state.
Cole Poplin and William Ard of Renegade Bowfishing, alongside Chris and Craig Webb, caught the animal at about 11pm on 28 September. The group had passed up an 11-foot alligator earlier that night while looking for a larger one; Snaggletooth stalled their 1,000-pound winch, and they needed a tractor to move it. South Carolina’s largest recorded catch remains a 1,025-pound alligator taken at Lake Moultrie in 2010.
