Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for "Children of Blood and Bone," Gina Prince-Bythewood's film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's fantasy novel, offering the fullest look yet at the magical world of Orïsha. The footage centres on Thuso Mbedu as Zélie Adebola, a young woman who sets out to restore magic to her people after it was violently stripped away, teaming up with the king's own children to challenge his oppressive rule. The release matters as one of the year's most anticipated fantasy adaptations, carried by a starry ensemble and a script co-written by the director and the source novel's author.

The trailer, scored to Beyoncé's "Energy (feat. Beam)," opens with Lashana Lynch as Zélie's mother Jumoke explaining how magic was taken from their people, and features Viola Davis as mentor Mama Agba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as tyrannical King Saran, and Damson Idris as his conflicted son Inan. It also introduces the film's Maji clans, including Omi "Tiders" who wield water and Ikú "Reapers" who summon souls, alongside glimpses of the Omi Clan's shoreside village and a mysterious pink river. The wider cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Tosin Cole, Cynthia Erivo, Regina King and Idris Elba, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
