A nine-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after falling from an agate bed near the Red Top Lookout trail on Teanaway Ridge in Washington state during a family hike. The incident, which occurred on 12 September, prompted a large-scale rescue operation and highlights the risks posed by remote hiking areas with difficult terrain and limited emergency access.

Emergency services received a 911 call from the girl's parents at 1.24pm, and a 30-strong Kittitas County Search and Rescue team was deployed, having to hike in due to the location's limited accessibility. Rescuers stabilised the girl, who had badly injured her right leg, before she was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; her current condition is unknown. District fire chief Aaron Lowe urged hikers visiting remote spots to prepare for emergencies given the long delays involved in such rescues, noting the same team had recently rescued other hikers and an injured dog from the area.
