Girl Scout cookies going to the dogs as vet warns against ‘unintentionally overfeeding’
Girl Scouts of the USA will launch its first-ever cookie made specifically for dogs, called Patch Pals, when the 2027 cookie season begins. The soft-baked, blueberry muffin-flavoured treats have been created in partnership with BARK, the company behind BarkBox, reflecting how pet owners increasingly treat animals as family members. A vet has welcomed the move but cautioned owners against letting the novelty lead to overfeeding.
Each Patch Pals treat features one of four designs representing classic Girl Scout experiences, and the range goes on sale from 12 January 2027. Ben Donati, an emergency vet in Silver Spring, Maryland, said treats generally shouldn't exceed about 10% of a dog's diet, and while nothing in the ingredients alarmed him, he warned that excess weight can shorten dogs' lives and strain their joints. He suggested owners use part of a dog's normal food allowance as treats during training rather than adding extra snacks, while still calling the product "great" fun for scouts and families.
