## Summary

Mexican journalist and television presenter Inés Gómez Mont was reportedly arrested by US immigration agents in Miami on Friday over fraud allegations. The case concerns an alleged $160 million scheme involving Mexican government funds, and Mont remains in US custody while immigration proceedings and any formal extradition process are considered.

Prosecutors accuse Mont and her husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, of using shell companies, sham contracts and false invoices to obtain money from Mexico’s Interior Ministry and launder the proceeds. The couple fled Mexico in 2021 after warrants were issued; Mont has denied wrongdoing, while Puga was detained in the US in 2025 and later released. Mont is also known for proposing to then-New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at a 2008 Super Bowl media event.
