Footage has emerged of Glen Hansard performing at a Dublin pub only hours before he died in a motorcycle crash. The video has drawn attention because it captures the Irish songwriter in the informal traditional music setting he continued to frequent despite international success.

Hansard performed at The Wren’s Nest in Chapelizod on Tuesday night and left at closing time; Gardaí were alerted to a single-vehicle crash in the Strawberry Beds area at about 4.30am on Wednesday, and he was pronounced dead aged 56. Best known for The Frames, The Swell Season and the film Once, he won an Academy Award with Markéta Irglová for “Falling Slowly”; tributes have come from figures including Bono, Bruce Springsteen and President Catherine Connolly.
