Actor Glen Powell shared an anecdote about a heavy night out in Nashville while researching his role in the upcoming Judd Apatow comedy "The Comeback King," in which he plays a disgraced country star attempting a comeback. Speaking on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" while it was guest-hosted by Jelly Roll, Powell, who co-wrote the film, explained that he wanted the project to be made "with country music" rather than simply about it, and described immersing himself in Nashville's music scene alongside real country artists to lend the film authenticity.

Powell recounted writing a song with singer HARDY before the pair joined country duo Dan + Shay for a bar crawl through Lower Broadway that expanded from one venue to twelve, ending around 3am at Jelly Roll's own bar, Goodnight, where they played beer pong. Powell admitted HARDY beat him comfortably at the game. He also revealed the film marks his first time singing on screen, crediting a voice coach and his sister Leslie, a professional songwriter, for preparing him, and said performing live in front of Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley on set was "the most terrifying" experience. Lambert, Paisley and Riley Green all make cameo appearances in the film alongside Jelly Roll.
