Actor Glen Powell and director Richard Linklater have paired up for their third time on an untitled Lou Gehrig project at Universal Pictures, with television icon Lorne Michaels attached to produce through his Broadway Video banner. The creative team also includes SNL writer Simon Rich to script the film, alongside producers at Powell's Barnstorm company and Linklater's Detour Filmproduction.

The biopic examines the career of Yankees legend Lou Gehrig, whose nickname the Iron Horse stemmed from his record run of 2,130 consecutive games before amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ended his playing days. Gehrig's 1939 farewell address to a packed Yankee Stadium crowd, in which he called himself the luckiest man alive despite his diagnosis, has attained legendary status in sports history. He died in 1941 at age 37, over eight decades after an earlier adaptation starring Gary Cooper dramatised his life.
