Glens ‘deserve huge credit’ after RFS loss – Devine
Glentoran manager Declan Devine praised his players after a narrow 2-1 defeat by Latvian side RFS in the first leg of their Uefa Conference League first round qualifier at the Oval. Although the east Belfast club now trail by a single goal, Devine insisted the tie was "only half-time" and said his side would carry "huge confidence" into the return fixture in Riga.
The Glens took an early lead through debutant Zeno Rossi, who scored after seven minutes having joined the club only hours before kick-off and trained with the team just once. RFS striker Martins Kigurs then netted twice to turn the game around, with Devine describing the visitors' goals as "huge slices of good luck". Glentoran will travel to Latvia for the second leg on 16 July, aiming to overturn the deficit in front of what Devine expects to be a large travelling support.
