Goals prove decisive as Kerry overcome Dublin

BBC Sport · 1 day ago

Kerry moved to within one game of back-to-back All-Ireland Senior Football Championship titles by beating old rivals Dublin 2-18 to 0-20 in Sunday's semi-final at a sweltering Croke Park. It was the sides' first championship meeting since Dublin's 2023 final win, and Jack O'Connor's team edged a tight, high-quality contest in which their two goals ultimately proved the difference against a Dublin side that pushed them hard.

David Clifford struck early, slamming home the rebound after Evan Comerford saved his third-minute penalty, and finished with 1-6, while his brother Paudie orchestrated play with five points. Dublin, who beat Donegal and Galway en route, stayed level for long spells but were undone by 12 wides and two spurned goal chances, including a Con O'Callaghan effort diverted onto the post by Shane Murphy. Kerry's second goal, a Sean O'Brien touch off the underside of the crossbar, wiped out a strong Dublin spell and helped the Kingdom move five clear entering the final quarter. They will face Mayo in the final on Sunday, 26 July.
