- Predecessor "Minus One" won the franchise's first Oscar

## Summary

"Godzilla Minus Zero" has been confirmed with a first trailer, full cast breakdown and release date, positioning it as the sequel to the Oscar-winning "Godzilla Minus One". Director Takashi Yamazaki returns for the follow-up, which arrives in North American cinemas and IMAX on 6 November 2026, with its predecessor's success cited as context: "Minus One" earned more than $110 million worldwide despite a modest budget, holds a 98% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, and became the first Godzilla film to win an Oscar, taking Best Visual Effects.

Set in 1949, two years after the previous film, the story finds Japan still struggling to recover from the war and Godzilla's earlier attack when "another threat" emerges, with the synopsis warning "there is no third time. Everything ends here." Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their lead roles as Kōichi Shikishima and Noriko Ōishi, joined by returning cast members Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando and Kuranosuke Sasaki, alongside newcomers including Masami Nagasawa as a weather forecaster and Jun Kunimura as Dr. Ogata.
