Toho has released a new teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One, and it appears to hinge on a moral dilemma over humanity's decision to drop a nuclear weapon on the monster. The trailer suggests that even a thermonuclear strike may fail to kill Godzilla and could simply provoke it, framing the attack as "another moral boundary mankind shouldn't cross." The film is notable as the first-ever Japanese production filmed for IMAX, and continues the franchise's strong creative momentum under returning writer-director Takashi Yamazaki.

Set in 1949, two years after the original, the sequel sees the Shikishima family return, with Ryunosuke Kamiki as pilot Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi, whose mysterious survival and Godzilla-cell "G-cells" from the first film remain a plot thread. This time Godzilla is heading to New York, though the teaser does not show its arrival or any other kaiju. Alongside the film, Toho has outlined broader ambitions via "Godzilla World," a plan led by Chief Godzilla Officer Keiji Ota to expand the 72-year-old character across video games, streaming, anime and other media, echoing Hollywood's MonsterVerse while retaining full ownership of the IP. Godzilla Minus Zero opens in US theatres on 6 November.
