Godzilla Minus Zero trailer reveals a shocking twist

Polygon · 2 months ago

Toho and distributor GKIDS have released a new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to the 2023 Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One, alongside fresh details about the film. Directed once again by Takashi Yamazaki, the movie continues the story of the Shikishima family in post-war Japan as they face a renewed threat from the monster. The latest trailer notably suggests that disaster-response officials may resort to extreme measures — including thermonuclear weapons — to drive Godzilla away from Japan, prompting one character to warn of "another moral boundary mankind should not cross".

The sequel adds actor Min Tanaka as Kanji Murakami, a war-scarred biologist, joining returning cast members Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka and others. An earlier teaser from April showed a larger, more menacing Godzilla heading towards New York City, passing the Statue of Liberty in a nod to his first appearance there since 1998's Godzilla. Yamazaki returns as director, screenwriter and visual effects lead, with the film opening on 3 November in Japan and 6 November in North America. It is also billed as the first-ever Japanese production filmed for IMAX using IMAX-certified high-definition digital cameras.
