## Key points

- *Artificial* will compete as a musical or comedy.
- Yura Borisov enters the comedy actor race.
- The Golden Globes take place on 10 January 2027.

## Summary

Neon has submitted Luca Guadagnino’s film *Artificial* in the Golden Globes musical or comedy categories, settling a closely watched awards-season classification question. The decision puts the film in different best picture and best actor races from those it would face as a drama, despite its serious subject of artificial intelligence’s rise and risks.

The comedy case rests partly on the screenplay by humour writer Simon Rich and scenes that have drawn laughter at screenings. Yura Borisov, who plays Ilya Sutskever, will compete in the comedy actor category; Andrew Garfield, as Sam Altman, and Monica Barbaro, as Mira Murati, are entered in supporting actor and actress races. The film premiered at the New York Film Festival on 5 October, and the 84th Golden Globes are scheduled for 10 January 2027.
