## Key points

- A24 has entered *Club Kid* as a Golden Globes drama.
- The film sold to A24 for $17 million after Cannes.
- Its dramatic turn includes a courtroom scene.

## Summary

A24 has submitted Jordan Firstman’s film *Club Kid* for Golden Globes consideration as a drama, a choice made in close consultation with Firstman. The classification places it in drama categories for picture, acting and related awards, where it will face a different group of competing films.

Though Firstman is known for comedy and the film has drawn comparisons to *Big Daddy*, its story becomes more dramatic as it unfolds, including a courtroom scene; Firstman has cited *An Unmarried Woman* and *Kramer vs. Kramer* as inspirations. *Club Kid* premiered at Cannes, received a seven-minute standing ovation and sold to A24 for $17 million, the festival’s biggest sale; it begins a platform theatrical release on Friday.
