Scotland’s World Cup bank holiday remarks by Susanna Reid cleared by Ofcom

Daily Mail · 8 hours ago

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has been cleared by the broadcasting regulator Ofcom after her on-air comments about Scotland's extra World Cup bank holiday drew more than 500 viewer complaints. During an episode of the ITV programme on 9 June, Reid described the additional day off granted to Scottish public sector workers as "outrageous", prompting a significant backlash from Scottish football supporters and an on-air apology from the presenter on 15 June.

The bank holiday was awarded to Scots on Monday 15 June to mark the national team's first World Cup appearance in 28 years, the day after their 1-0 victory over Haiti in a match that kicked off at 2am UK time. Some schools also closed for the day. Reid, 55, and co-presenter Ed Balls, 59, had discussed the decision on the show, with Balls recounting his own disbelief at learning of the extra day off. Ofcom confirmed the complaints related to the discussion but did not uphold them.
