Google is positioning its new Googlebook laptops as the Android equivalent of Apple’s MacBook–iPhone ecosystem. The devices are designed to work closely with Android phones, allowing users to continue apps across devices, access phone files, run mobile apps on the laptop and manage notifications centrally.

The first five models, from Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer and Asus, combine a Chromebook-like layout with Android’s Material 3 Expressive design. Key features include shared notifications, direct phone file browsing, Continue On and app casting, although the latter two require Android 17 and currently support only selected apps or newer phones. Google promises 10 years of software support, but fragmented Android updates could limit adoption initially.
