Great American State Fair Attendees on Life Support Amid Extreme Heat in Washington, D.C.

The Hollywood Reporter · 4 days ago

The Great American State Fair on the National Mall closed temporarily on Friday as extreme heat conditions triggered numerous medical emergencies. Emergency responders handled 44 patient contacts throughout the day, with 11 individuals requiring hospital transport—seven receiving advanced life support and four receiving basic life support. Over a dozen of these contacts were attributed to heat-related illnesses and injuries.

The severe conditions affected other Independence Day celebrations across Washington, D.C. Saturday's Salute To America ceremony and fireworks were rescheduled to later in the day, whilst a planned Independence Day parade was cancelled entirely. Event organisers coordinated with federal and local agencies to expand cooling stations, water distribution points, and medical support at venues hosting the remainder of the celebration weekend.
