Green Day mock Satan and reject mortality on new single I’m Never Gonna R.I.P

Rolling Stone · 2 months ago

Green Day have released a new single, "I'm Never Gonna R.I.P.", which will feature on the soundtrack to the band's forthcoming coming-of-age comedy film, Nimrods. The track pairs a "Rock Around the Clock"-style rock-and-roll groove with the band's trademark crunchy guitars and defiant, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong singing about outrunning the devil and refusing to die. Its release doubles as a promotional launch for both the album and the film.

Alongside the single, Green Day unveiled the full 30-track soundtrack, which mixes band classics such as "Longview", "Basket Case" and "American Idiot" with four previously unreleased live recordings from a show at the Palladium in Los Angeles. The album also includes new material from the film's fictional band, Analog Dogs, and from real artists appearing in the movie, including Ultra Q, the Paradox and McKenna Grace. The soundtrack arrives on 31 July across CD, cassette, streaming and several vinyl variants, while Nimrods reaches cinemas on 14 August, starring Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust alongside Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey and Fred Armisen, with Green Day members also appearing.
