Green Day’s Mike Dirnt to Sell One-of-a-Kind Bass Guitars, Clothing, More on Reverb
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt is auctioning off a large collection of his guitars, amps and stage-worn clothing through the online marketplace Reverb, giving fans the chance to own gear from across his three-decade career, including several basses that were deliberately set on fire during live shows. The sale, previewed now on Dirnt's Reverb shop and opening on 9 September, reflects the musician's view that instruments should be passed on once they've served their purpose, with proceeds from the clothing items going to charity.
Highlights of the collection include bass guitars burned onstage during the Nimrod and Warning tours, when drummer Tré Cool would set his kit alight, and an unplayable original Gibson Grabber that was accidentally smashed by Cool and Dirnt. Also on offer are two customised Fender Mike Dirnt Signature Precision basses from the American Idiot era, a signed Fender bass used during the making of Nimrod, and a 1962 Fender Precision in Fiesta Red. The clothing lineup features the leather jacket from the "Wake Me Up When September Ends" video, the security outfit from "Oh Yeah," and tour jackets and pinstriped trousers, most of which Dirnt personally designed or altered.
