Greens founder challenges Shoebridge on Hamas and party’s electoral reach
Greens co-founder Drew Hutton has challenged new Australian Greens leader David Shoebridge to back a two-state solution, condemn Hamas and criticise the slogan “globalise the Intifada”. Hutton also questioned whether the party could win support beyond its traditional base, renewing his criticism that it has drifted from its founding principles.
Hutton left the Queensland Greens in June after a dispute over transgender policy and comments on social media. Shoebridge was elected leader in a 7–4 party-room ballot after Larissa Waters stepped aside for health reasons. Failed leadership contender Mehreen Faruqi criticised the lack of a membership vote and called for a “one member, one vote” system.
