A preliminary hearing began in the murder case against singer David Anthony Burke, known as D4vd, during which prosecutors showed graphic crime scene photographs of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez's dismembered body in front of her parents. The hearing, held in Los Angeles, was the first public presentation of evidence previously only detailed in court filings, and is intended to establish whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to a full trial. Burke, 21, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering and sexually abusing the teenager.

A homicide detective testified that Burke ordered a body bag, chainsaws, an inflatable pool and a shovel online in the days after Celeste's death, whose body was found last year inside a Tesla registered to him. Prosecutors allege he stabbed her and dismembered her body with a chainsaw to cover up the killing, motivated by her threat to expose his relationship with a minor and damage his music career. The girl's family attorney, Patrick Steinfeld, said her parents insisted on remaining in court to support their daughter despite being warned about the graphic nature of the images, describing the experience as "a parent's worst nightmare."
