## Key points

- GTA 6 will avoid direct Trump and COVID parodies.
- Rockstar wants its satire to remain timeless.
- The game launches on 19 November.

## Summary

Rockstar Games says Grand Theft Auto 6 will not directly parody Donald Trump’s rise to power or the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the series’ reputation for sharp and often crude satire. The studio believes such specific real-world subjects could make a game developed over many years feel dated, and is instead prioritising themes with a longer-lasting relevance.

Rockstar North head Rob Nelson said the team is avoiding specific political issues, memes and contemporary slang in favour of broader human behaviour and cultural trends. The game may still satirise subjects such as the mainstreaming of conspiracy theories, while its trailers have included apparent references to viral internet culture; GTA 6 is due on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
