Game Over series about the Gucci family unveils first-look images and new cast

Variety · 2 months ago

Sky Italia has released first-look images and confirmed further casting for "Gucci: Game Over", a high-end limited series billed as Italy's answer to Ridley Scott's 2021 film "House of Gucci". The Comcast-owned broadcaster is positioning the show as an Italian-led telling of the notorious saga, in part responding to criticism that Scott's film used no Italian actors in its lead roles. Miriam Leone will play Patrizia Reggiani — the former socialite convicted of ordering the murder of her ex-husband, the role taken by Lady Gaga in the film — while Francesco Scianna plays the victim, Maurizio Gucci.

The six-episode series, made for the international market and currently shooting in Italy, is directed by Gabriele Muccino ("The Pursuit of Happyness") and co-produced by Sky Studios and Lucky Red. It is based on a memoir by Allegra Gucci, daughter of Maurizio and Patrizia, written as letters to her murdered father; Matilda Lutz plays Allegra, with the story told across multiple timelines through both women's eyes. Additional cast announced on Tuesday includes Francesco Acquaroli, Paolo Pierobon and Sergio Romano as Aldo, Rodolfo and Paolo Gucci. Maurizio Gucci was shot dead outside his Milan office on 27 March 1995, and Reggiani was convicted in 1998; the series is scheduled to air on Sky in 2027.
