Guimaraes makes Arsenal debut in draw with Como
Bruno Guimaraes made an encouraging Arsenal debut in a 1-1 friendly draw with Como, shortly after completing his £75m move from Newcastle United. The Brazilian midfielder looked composed and quickly connected with supporters, offering early signs that he could strengthen Arsenal’s midfield before the competitive season begins.
Myles Lewis-Skelly gave Arsenal a first-half lead, but Martin Baturina levelled with a fine strike for Como. Guimaraes came on at half-time, made defensive interventions and attempted inventive passes, including one that led to a disallowed Kai Havertz goal; he also scored in a pre-arranged penalty shoot-out. Mikel Arteta said the 28-year-old had trained only three times and his availability to start against Manchester City in the Community Shield remained uncertain.
