## Key points

- Six people were killed in Kraków’s historic centre.
- At least 15 others were wounded.
- Police shot and detained a suspect.

## Summary

The death toll from Saturday’s shooting in Kraków’s historic centre is six, including four women and two men, while at least 15 people were wounded. The attack on the city’s landmark Main Market Square is Poland’s deadliest shooting in decades; police shot the suspect, who was taken into custody.

Police said the suspect was a Polish citizen born in 2002 who drove onto the square and fired at people at random. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said he appeared to hold radical far-right and ultra-nationalist views; officers found several weapons and a large quantity of ammunition in his car. One person killed and five of the wounded hospitalised were foreign nationals, and the authorities are investigating the circumstances.
