## Summary

A gunman opened fire in Krakow’s busy Main Square on Saturday, killing six people and wounding 15, according to regional authorities. The attack struck a major tourist destination and is significant because mass shootings are uncommon in Poland.

Police said the Polish citizen drove into the square and fired at random people, then was shot and wounded by officers during a gunfight nearby. Police officers were among those injured; the suspect was wearing military-style clothing and carrying a military-type long gun, and officers found other weapons and ammunition in his car. Police said he acted alone and the public was safe.
