## Key points

- Sarah Helm’s posts about Gaza have triggered questions for Downing Street.
- Critics are calling for her husband, Jonathan Powell, to lose his post.
- Police found no criminality in the posts under investigation.

## Summary

Sarah Helm, wife of National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, has come under scrutiny for posts on X about Gaza, Palestine Action and Hamas. The posts have prompted questions at a Downing Street briefing and calls from critics for Powell to lose his job, though the article does not report any decision about his position.

The article says a police investigation found no criminality in Helm’s posts, some of which appeared to support Palestine Action, a group described as proscribed. She also said Powell had neither been involved in the group’s ban nor had the power to reverse it, fuelling allegations that she disclosed confidential information. Other posts criticised Hamas’s critics, questioned its responsibility for sexual violence on 7 October, and included past praise for Bashar al-Assad and remarks about a “Jewish Lobby”; Downing Street says her views do not represent the Government.
