## Key points

- Young Sherlock investigates stolen scrolls at Oxford.
- Sherlock and Moriarty become unlikely friends.
- The eight-episode series has been renewed.

## Summary

*Young Sherlock* follows a teenage Sherlock Holmes as he investigates the theft of ancient scrolls at Oxford, after becoming the prime suspect. The series has been renewed for a second season, giving its mystery and young characters room to develop; the article argues it is a stronger Guy Ritchie series than *The Gentlemen*.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays 19-year-old Sherlock, whose investigation draws in his unlikely ally James Moriarty, Princess Shou’an and a conspiracy involving murder, revenge and royalty. The first season has eight episodes, and also explores the childhood disappearance of Sherlock’s sister Beatrice. The article praises the twists and the friendship between Sherlock and Moriarty, which differs from their more familiar rivalry.
