Jean Smart has secured another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the final season of HBO Max's *Hacks*, positioning her to potentially make Emmy history. Having already won the award for each of the show's first four seasons, a fifth win at the September ceremony would give her eight acting Emmys in total, tying the all-time record for a performer held by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman.

To claim the record, Smart must beat a competitive field comprising Ayo Edebiri (*The Bear*), Lisa Kudrow (*The Comeback*), Elle Fanning (*Margo's Got Money Troubles*) and Quinta Brunson (*Abbott Elementary*). Her existing tally includes four *Hacks* wins, two guest-actress Emmys for *Frasier* and a supporting-actress win for *Samantha Who?*; she recently joked to Jimmy Kimmel that she has seven but has misplaced one. A clean sweep would also see her join Bill Cosby and Blythe Danner as performers who won for every season of a series, a feat Louis-Dreyfus narrowly missed with *Veep* after losing once to Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
