The film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Hadestown" has arrived in US cinemas, reuniting several original cast members and creator Anaïs Mitchell to discuss its journey from stage to screen. The production, a retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth set to Mitchell's folk-influenced score, has built a devoted fanbase since its Broadway debut, and the film is expected to introduce the show to a wider audience while giving existing fans a reason for repeat viewings during its limited theatrical run.

Directed by Brett Sullivan of Steam Motion, the film is projected to earn around $9 million at the US box office in its opening weekend, second only to the "Hamilton" film among direct stage-to-screen captures. Original cast members Reeve Carney, Eva Noblezada, Patrick Page and André De Shields — the latter a 2020 Tony winner for his role as Hermes — returned for the project, alongside close collaboration between stage director Rachel Chavkin and Sullivan on how to translate the story's emotional beats for cinema. The film is scheduled to run in theatres for one week.
