Sam Hain’s superb 142 helped Warwickshire move within touching distance of a ninth County Championship title after they dominated relegation-threatened Leicestershire at Edgbaston. Warwickshire’s first-innings lead of 247, followed by three more Leicestershire wickets, means a draw would now be enough to secure the championship.

Hain faced 301 balls for his 21st first-class century and passed 1,000 first-class runs for the season, while Ed Barnard contributed 88 in a 165-run partnership. Leicestershire were dismissed for 125 and ended the day on 55-3, with Warwickshire seamer Ethan Bamber taking two further wickets to reach 66 for the season; Leicestershire’s relegation is subject to a points appeal.
