Hampshire County Cricket Club have reversed their decision to field New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn after backlash from supporters and staff. He had been named in the squad for a County Championship match against Warwickshire without an official announcement, prompting criticism on social media, and less than an hour before play began on Wednesday the club confirmed he would not feature in any of their remaining four fixtures this season.

Kuggeleijn, 34, was acquitted of rape in 2017 following a re-trial after an earlier hung jury, having originally faced the charge in 2015. The seam bowler has spent 12 years with Northern Districts in New Zealand and has represented the Black Caps in three Tests, two ODIs and 18 T20s. Hampshire, who said they had "listened to feedback from staff and supporters," currently sit bottom of Division One with 86 points, having won only twice, lost five times and drawn three matches this year.
