Hannah Einbinder has spoken out after being detained at a protest outside the United Nations in New York, where demonstrators opposed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit. The Hacks actor urged the US government to help end Israel’s attacks on Gaza, arguing that attention on the arrests should not overshadow the wider humanitarian crisis.

Einbinder and actor Susan Sarandon were among up to 100 protesters detained while blocking Netanyahu’s entrance to the UN General Assembly. Other attendees included Cynthia Nixon, Elliot Page, Chelsea Manning and Indya Moore; demonstrators, organised by Jewish Voice for Peace, criticised the strikes in Gaza and chanted slogans accusing Netanyahu of genocide.
