Hanway Films has come on board to handle sales for Luca Guadagnino's documentary about Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, titled "Joie De Vivre", which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The seven-hour director's cut will screen across two parts, on 8 and 9 September, with Guadagnino also set to receive the festival's Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award beforehand. The project marks a significant deep-dive into Bertolucci's legacy and is Guadagnino's second nonfiction work on the filmmaker.

The documentary examines Bertolucci's major films, including "The Conformist", "Last Tango in Paris" and "The Last Emperor", drawing on interviews with figures such as Martin Scorsese, Alfonso Cuarón, Debra Winger and Margot Robbie, alongside critics and producer Jeremy Thomas. It is produced by MeMo Films, which previously worked with Guadagnino on "Call Me by Your Name" and "Suspiria", and follows his earlier 2013 essay film on Bertolucci. Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera has praised the 435-minute film as "extraordinary" and engrossing despite its length.
