Reggie and Ronnie, twin Rottweiler puppies training with Devon and Cornwall Police's dog unit, have marked their first birthday with hats and bibs. Believed to be the only Rottweilers in the UK training as general-purpose police dogs, the pair have spent the past year learning to follow commands, track scents and detain suspects since joining the force in December 2025 aged just 13 weeks. The milestone highlights an unusual choice of breed for policing work and offers a light-hearted moment for a force whose dogs typically play a serious operational role.

The brothers, named after London gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, have grown considerably, with Reggie now weighing around 37.5kg and Ronnie 38.1kg. Canine development officer Paul Glennon said the name was chosen to link the pair together memorably, adding that unlike their notorious namesakes, they would hopefully be "bringing bad guys to book". Reggie and Ronnie face roughly 14 more months of training before a three-month handler course, and if successful could go on to serve until they turn eight.
