Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she has not decided whether to seek the presidency again in 2028, while stressing that Democrats must prioritise the 2026 midterm elections. Speaking at a Detroit event, she argued that a successful 2028 campaign would depend on getting through the 2026 elections first, signalling continued political engagement without formally declaring her intentions.

Harris made the remarks during a fireside chat with Detroit religious and civic leaders, after urging attendees to vote, including through early and postal voting. Earlier that day, she campaigned with Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, discussing Black maternal health and healthcare costs, and criticised President Donald Trump’s healthcare policies. Harris became the Democratic nominee in 2024 after Joe Biden withdrew from the race, but lost the election to Trump.
