HBO has unveiled redesigned crests for all four Hogwarts houses as part of its "Harry Potter" television adaptation, marking the annual Back to Hogwarts celebrations. The most notable change sees Ravenclaw finally represented by an eagle rather than the raven long used in Warner Bros.' film franchise, bringing the series closer to J.K. Rowling's original novels. This matters because HBO has repeatedly stressed its intention to stay faithful to the books while offering a more expansive adaptation than previous screen versions.

The new crests adopt a more minimalist style than earlier film designs, each featuring its house animal surrounded by simpler decorative flourishes, and fan reaction has been mixed, with some criticising the pared-back artwork. Gryffindor keeps its lion, Slytherin its serpent and Hufflepuff its badger, while Ravenclaw's eagle restores both the book-accurate animal and hints at a return to its original blue-and-bronze colour scheme, having previously been shown as blue and silver with a raven. The series, HBO's adaptation of Rowling's Wizarding World books, begins with "The Philosopher's Stone", following Harry Potter's discovery of his magical abilities and enrolment at Hogwarts.
