Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting former assistant Miriam Haley. Haley said the assault had caused lasting damage to her life and sense of security, while Weinstein denied the allegations but apologised to anyone he may have harmed.

The sentence follows a retrial after New York’s highest court overturned his 2020 conviction, ruling that he had not received a fair trial. Haley testified that Weinstein assaulted her in his Manhattan apartment in 2006; he was acquitted of a separate charge involving Kaja Sokola, while jurors failed to reach a verdict on an alleged rape involving Jessica Mann. Weinstein has already spent six years in prison and also has a separate sex-crimes conviction in Los Angeles.
