HBO Chief on ‘Heated Rivalry‘ Emmys Ineligibility: “I’m Just Proud to Have Season 2″

The Hollywood Reporter ·

HBO's content chief Casey Bloys has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about the network's continued dominance at the 2026 Emmy nominations, where it secured 122 nods — eleven more than second-placed Netflix. The interview matters because it comes amid both a period of sustained awards success and considerable uncertainty, with HBO potentially set to be owned by David Ellison's Paramount within a year.

HBO led the field thanks to The Pitt and Hacks, which took the most (25) and second-most (24) nominations respectively, while Apple TV+ had a strong showing with 87. Notably, HBO's buzziest title, the acquired Canadian series Heated Rivalry, was ineligible because only US productions can compete; Bloys said he was simply proud to have a second season. He also reflected on disappointments such as I Love LA, which drew no nominations despite 18 submissions, and praised The Comeback for its prescient, grounded take on AI in the industry.

  • HBO topped the 2026 Emmy nominations with 122, ahead of Netflix.
  • The Pitt and Hacks led all shows with 25 and 24 nods.
  • Heated Rivalry was ineligible as a non-US production.
