HBO's most anticipated science-fiction series of the year, Lanterns, is set to premiere on HBO Max on 16 August, continuing the story of James Gunn's DC Universe. The show arrives after a run of high-profile HBO releases in 2026, including two Game of Thrones spin-offs and the medical drama The Pitt, and is being billed as one of the network's biggest launches of the year following heavy online interest in its trailers.

Lanterns stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, with a supporting cast that includes Laura Linney and Garret Dillahunt. The series links into the wider DCU through Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, a character previously seen in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2. It was written and created for television by Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindelof, and is being positioned as DC's answer to True Detective.
